Hello my friend,
Let’s get straight to it. It takes a lot to look this dapper, particularly when you’re 180 kilos and covered in unruly black hair. No amount of VO5 can control it, I’m telling you. But I’ve embraced my unusual look, dressing in bespoke suits (I tend to favour pinstripe) and good shoes. Finally, I finish it off with appropriate and unique fashion accessories; mostly from my collection of cool watches.
But no watch can save a man, if that man cannot dress with style. There are also certain occasions when a type of watch simply will not do – a sports watch and a suit for example – but not to worry chaps, your old pal Ape is here to help. Now, there are the laws of the jungle and the rules of watch etiquette; abide by both and you’ll not only survive, but you’ll look swell too.
The Stylish Man’s Everyday Watch
An everyday watch should be attractive, yet neutral and durable. Fashionistas say basic is best but this Ape says poppycock. The Abbrecci Apollo is made of sturdy stainless steel, and comes in a versatile gunmetal grey – goes with everything, really – adorned with a spattering of colour. Its visible gold-coloured mechanism and deep blue hands add to the aesthetic delight of this sleek and stylish watch, which is just one of the reasons this nifty contender is a frontrunner in my collection of cool watches.
In Full Feather: Formal Watches
Watches are functional fashion accessories but for special occasions a little something extra may be required. A slim black or brown leather strap can be matched with one’s shoes and belt, for a coordinated and sophisticated look. Might I suggest the Abbrecci Hestia or the Abbrecci Gentleman? Both showcase an intricate and attractive dial, whilst secured to your wrist with a high-quality, authentic leather strap.
You only need worry about your watch, belt and shoes – I’ll point out now that it is unnecessary to match your watch strap to your hair. I say this, because I have a particularly pernickety Orangutan friend who insists he cannot find a suitable ginger-coloured watch, which is, frankly, utterly absurd.
‘Spose You Require a Sports Watch?
For those who are athletically inclined, there are a number of features on a sports watch that can aid you. Some cool watches can keep time, measure speed and depth or even be used as a compass. I mentioned last week the marvellous technology of the tachymeter – featured on sporty-looking watches like the Excelsior Stainless Core – used to measure speed as well as tell the time. What a fantastically multi-functional timepiece! One hard-and-fast rule however, is to avoid sporting a sports watch whilst wearing a suit. Unless of course, you can carry it off like the Ape.
Finding the right watch for your outfit is all about how it makes you feel when you wear it. That’s why it’s so handy to have as big a collection as possible! It’s what helps me look so dapper every day, when I wake up, roll out of the nest and cheerfully look in the mirror thinking ‘My, that’s one mighty-fine, gorgeous gorilla.’
