Why hello, watch-lovers…
Your old pal Weird Ape here once again, with all things from my watch-filled world. Last week I updated you with my cool watch trends – but boy have I had it in the neck ever since. It’s Mrs. Weird Ape you see, she’s been chastising me for reminiscing about our time in the Congo. She seems to believe that, because we’re urban apes now, clued up on the trendiest timepieces, we shouldn’t delve into the past. Poppycock, I say – I love reminiscing about yesteryear, perhaps explaining my deep, passionate love of watches.
Anyway, to make it up to the old girl I promised I’d write a piece on women’s watches. I must keep her sweet you see, otherwise I might come across her rifling through my collection, seeing which of her favourite weird and wonderful watches she can ‘borrow’. So, here we go.
Wrist watches for women are bigger than ever before – quite literally. Whilst some still prefer a slim case for a delicate look, many women are turning to large, wide-diameter faces and thick straps for optimal visual impact.
An oversized women’s watch has now become a classic. For the more demure, one may prefer clean lines and subtle designs which can stop a larger watch from being too fussy. The Vita Hollow oozes subtle, minimalist majesty, and as we all know girls, white goes with everything. Ahem, or so Mrs. Ape tells me.
For the trend-conscious that want to experiment but feel they would miss the feminine look of a ladies watch, there’s only one answer. I’m sure you humans refer to it as ‘blinging up’. Of course, I mean the art of strategically sprinkling rhinestones; the act of carefully constructed craftsmanship that results in a glittering, eye-catching watch face. If ‘pretty’ is the desired effect, try the utterly perfect Peacestar. Still sporting a bold, wide face, this women’s watch has just the right amount of shimmer, delicately offset with a white leather style strap. It draws the right amount of attention, whilst appearing understated on the wrist.
Lastly, for the bold - go opaque, with deep colours . Nothing makes a statement like a dark, handsome number (rather like myself) and if it’s striking you’re after, I give you… The Mirtello Dali. As a purveyor of pocket-sized time machines for many a year, I take great delight when I find a watch that sends shivers down my spine. This, is one of them. Sleek, sultry and sophisticated – the Dali is the type of watch to get you noticed, and holds the type of rare, unusual beauty that makes it one of my favourite collector’s pieces.
Ah, my love of exquisite watches never ceases to amaze me. I could talk with you all day my friends, but alas – I must dash, as Monkey World is starting. Whilst I can’t stand those damn foolish, futile chimps, they have some intriguing enrichment enclosures. And I need some inspiration – we’re redecorating the second bedroom.
Weird Ape out.
